The Role of Religion in Social Life and Statehood building in Thailand

Annotation: The author dwells on the problem of the religion influence on social relations and the Thai state, considering the role of different religions with Buddhism being the most important. Its influence on a Thai individual, social relations and the Thai statehood could not be overestimated. The close connection between the sangha and bureaucracy is underlined as well as attempts to use Buddhist monks in politics. The author emphasized the modernity impact on a Thai religious consciousness.
