Annotation: During the first decade of independence, Burma pursued active foreign policy and played an appreciable international role. Burma was one of the initiators of April 1955 Bandung Conference which has been acclaimed as the beginning of a new era for Asia and Africa. After half a century of isolation from the outside world, Myanmar revived its active political role in the international relations that culminated in hosting ASEAN’s summits in 2014. ASEAN chairmanship marks an important milestone for Myanmar in the process of opening up to the world and playing as an active regional member.
