Annotation: A.Kolmakova studies participation of New Zealand in settlement of the East Timor crisis. She points out at deterioration of security situation in East Timor after the UN sponsored referendum results publication, showing the desire of the majority of the population to be independent from Indonesia. Indonesia invaded the country in 1975. This publication caused bloody clashes of supporters and opponents of independence which in turn evoked negative emotions in Australia, New Zealand, Portugal and other countries and deployment of international peace-keeping forces to East Timor. New Zealand sent there military force of 1100 men or 10% of its armed forces. They managed to provide peace and humanitarian assistance, but final elimination of tension is still to be addressed.
