Annotation: The position of Joko Widodo cabinet has become substantially stronger following the split in some opposition parties and shifting of some parties to support of the government. At the same time Indonesian top brass clearly tended to position themselves as an autonomous force actively engaged in non-military fields. The government considers fighting against Islamic radicalism an urgent task. But at the grass-root level radical Islam is still tolerated by local authorities. Tension is still high in the South-China Sea with Indonesia trying to preserve equal distances from the US and China as well as to remain neutral in the Middle East conflict.
