Russia - ASEAN: Problems and Prospect of Economic Cooperation

Annotation: The author emphasized the need of a clear and complete definition of Russian economic interests in the ASEAN member countries. So far, these interests are clearly formulated only in the sphere of economic cooperation controlled by the state. But this area is extremely narrow (arms and energy resources) and highly politicized (all decisions are made by government agencies), while the ASEAN zone is characterized by a very broad opportunities for cooperation in private sector. The report analyzed in detail the factors that hinder the expansion of trade and investment relations between Russia and ASEAN countries.
