ASEAN Economic Community Towards Regional Power Grids

Annotation: The author believes that one of the central components of the ASEAN Economic Community concept is the comprehensive strengthening of the ASEAN member countries' interconnections in infrastructure. The main progress in this field have been achieved in improvement of regional energy infrastructure, which was dictated by the rapidly growing demand for energy on the part of almost all ASEAN member countries and the growing awareness of threats to energy security for most of them. Therefore, the ASEAN countries have focused their efforts on the phased construction of the ASEAN Power Grid and Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline. The author gives the analysis of the current state of both projects and their development in the future.
