Annotation: The author explains the selection of these three countries in the conventional group in connection with the controversy over the wording of the final document of the ASEAN summit. The position of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand on this document could be explained by a number of factors internal as well as international. China and the US confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region, the attempts of the powers to split the unity of ASEAN contribute to international tension. At the same time, the Association member- states cherish the principle of "consensus", which is basic for its activities and are making efforts to prevent controversy in the South-East Asia.
