Indonesian-Chinese relations: 23 years of "freezing"
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2019, №3(44), 176-188
Annotation: The article analyzes the period of the “freezing” of relations between Indonesia and China, which began after the events of September 30, 1965 in Indonesia and the coming to power of the leaders of the “new order” led by General Suharto and the “soft” overthrow of President Sukarno. Officially, relations between the countries were terminated in August 1967. After a 23-year hiatus, Indonesia restored diplomatic relations with China. As China's influence on the world stage grew, Jakarta felt an ever more urgent need for a full-fledged official relationship with this giant, which forced it to overcome many years of anti-communist and mostly anti-Chinese sentiment. It was the need to establish trade and economic cooperation that pushed countries to normalize relations.
