The evolution of Indonesia's foreign policy under Joko Vidodo
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2017, №37, 70-81
Annotation: While the tension in world politics is increasing, the search for non-traditional methods of dispute settlement and strengthening of countries position on the world stage using new methods become more and more important. The article examines the mechanisms that the government of the Republic of Indonesia employs today to pursue its foreign policy. Analyzing how the country's national interests were promoted by the previous government, we come to the conclusion that due to an active policy of the so-called "soft power," the country has managed to reach an understanding with the key neighboring countries, but a number of such pressing problems as settlement of the territorial disputes and gaining the status of a sea power for the country were not solved. The new Indonesian President Joko Widodo has started to conduct tougher foreign policy with the aim to achieve success in solving the most urgent problems without detracting the significance of the methods of "soft" diplomacy of the previous government.
