Aung San Suu Kyi, refugees, army and Pope Francis

Annotation: The article describes the complex situation in the context of the humanitarian crisis in Rakhine state. The world reacted to the events by criticizing the political leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi, although ‘clearance operations’ targeting a Rohingya militant group, the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, was conducted by state security forces, which are not subject to the State Counsellor. The most active critics were representatives of the United Kingdom, whose colonial policy was the root cause of the current crisis. In this difficult time Pope Francis visited the country for the first time in history.
