Annotation: In the article the author notes that the threat of terrorism has been increasing in the region since the proclamation of ISIS. The author comes to the following conclusions. The threat of internalization and regionalization of the jihadist movement in Southeast Asia is growing, the number of local extremist organizations is increasing, and with it the threat of terrorist attacks in the region. The social base of Islamic extremism is steadily expanding; the structure of terrorist organizations is changing, which is manifested in the emergence of many small cells independent of each other. A new phenomenon for the Southeast Asian countries is the emergence of so-called" sleeper cells" of terrorists. The jihadist movement is changing generations by attracting young people, mainly students, which is today the greatest danger to the security of the countries of the region.
