Political aspects of the accession to the throne in Thailand of the new king

Annotation: The paper analyses the political situation in the country in connection with the passing away of Rama IX. The author considers as successful government activities to ensure a smooth transition of power to the new monarch Maha Wachiralongkorn. The ruling circles managed to preserve the sacred nature of the Royal institution and consolidate the political power in the country on the basis of national unity around mourning for the deceased monarch.
