Russia and China in the "trap" of justice: how the Beijing's defeat in international arbitration will affect the interests of Moscow? (Part 2.)
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2018, №2(39), 13-27
Annotation: The Award of the International Arbitration in The Hague on the lawsuit initiated by the Philippines against China was extremely timely, because Beijing claims in the South China Sea were excessively ambitious. However, the decision is unlikely to contribute to reducing the level of conflict in the region. The reason for this is the legal inconsistency and controversy of the Verdict, as a legal precedent was created for the interpretation of the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the law of the sea, which can be used in other international disputes. For Russia, which has a number of unresolved contradictions with other countries in the surrounding Maritime areas, this fact is extremely important.
