Security community in Southeast Asia: conflicting approaches

Annotation: The article analyzes the current discussion among experts regarding the relevance of the concept of security communities to contemporary situation in Southeast Asia after the launch of ASEAN Political-Security Community initiative. Different sides of the argument are presented including constructivist scholars who maintain an optimistic stance and realist scholars who tend to be more skeptical. The author concludes that it is to be seen which side presents the most viable interpretation and suggests considering the applicability of alternative approaches towards the problem.
