Investment Regulation in Myanmar

Annotation: The proposed article analyzes the current investment legislation of the Union of Myanmar, approved in 2016-2017. Its main difference is the liberalization of the investment regime in the country, in particular, the division of business with foreign investment into two groups: authorized business (simplified form) and approved business (complex form) by the Myanmar Investment Commission; increase of the share of foreign capital in the authorized capital of local companies to 35%. Some aspects of the country's investment climate were analyzed in the World Bank Group's assessment of the components of business simplification and in accordance with the results of the companies’ survey. In the conclusion of the article, the main trends of attracting foreign direct investment into the economy and free economic zones of Myanmar, including volume dynamics, geographical and sectoral distribution, are considered.
