Myanmar: unresolved political problems of the NLD government

Annotation: Over the past two and a half years after coming to power the government of Myanmar, the NLD has faced daunting challenges. Some analysts, both Western and national, even believe that the process of democratization in Myanmar has been reversed, and the country is reviving its methods of governance in the old totalitarian style. Burmese analysts called the main negative points in the work of the government of NLD: 1. the slowdown in the economy; 2. lack of progress in the peace process; 3. restriction of freedom of speech; 4. failure to keep some campaign promises. The author of the article made an attempt to understand the justice of such criticism, and how the ruling party and its leader respond to the challenges of the world community.
