Vanuatu: From the Coconut War to Juggling the Interests of the Great Powers

Annotation: The article deals with the stages of formation of the South Pacific state of Vanuatu before and after independence. The features of the political system, including the struggle of Francophone and Anglophonon parties for power in the conditions of extreme shortage of financial resources necessary for the development of the country, are analyzed. The ways of replenishment of the state budget by the leaders of Vanuatu, the main of which was maneuvering between the interests of the world powers that divided spheres of influence in the South Pacific region in 2000-2010, are investigated.
