Annotation: The paper deals with the opposition “town and country” which is one of the most important features of the short stories by Nguyen Huy Thiep, a famous contemporary Vietnamese writer. The paper demonstrates that his sympathies belong to poor and patriarchal countryside and its inhabitants, but he obviously dislikes rich and civilized town and its citizens.
