The 110th anniversary of the birth of the UN Secretary-General U Thant (1909−2019)

Annotation: The article is devoted to the memory of the outstanding Burmese diplomat and peacemaker U Thant, who served as UN Secretary-General for two terms in 1961-1971 at the height of the cold war. We did not have the task to present the biography of this remarkable man, on this topic there is extensive literature. The purpose of the proposed article is to recall once again the third in the history Secretary-General of the United Nations and the first representative of young independent States, who took this honorable and responsible position and to remember his role in resolving the Cuban missile crisis. The article focuses on the facts confirming that people not only Myanmar (Burma), but also other countries honor the memory of this distinguished man.
