ASEAN in the Belt and Road Initiative: Looking Forward Vietnam’s Chairmanship

Annotation: The article makes a forecast on the degree of ASEAN’s readiness to intensify cooperation with China in the year of Vietnam’s partnership (2020). The study reveals the extent to which the current evolution of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a global mega-project corresponds to the interests and the prospective planning of ASEAN and Vietnam. The analysis reveals that despite an intensification of multi-dimensional cooperation between the association and China, as well as the significance of Southeast Asia as one of the BRI directions, prospects for breakthrough agreements in ASEAN-China dialogue in the year of Vietnam’s chairmanship are poor.
