West and East in the unipolar world. Struggle for influence in South-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2019, №3(44), 10-27
Annotation: At the beginning of the 21st century, the single-polar structure formed after the collapse of the USSR ceased to correspond to the realities of the modern world and to profound fundamental changes in the ratio of economic and political forces on the world stage. The center of world development began to shift to the East. The decisive factor in the struggle for influence in South-East Asia, the Pacific region, and Asia as a whole is the balance of power between the US and China. It is changing in favor of China. In the mid-1990s, India adopted a "Look East" policy that focused on the countries of South-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. To this end, it used the capabilities of ASEAN, and later BIMSTEC. Southeast Asia and the Pacific region are currently a field of trade, economic, and political struggle between China, the United States, Japan, and India.
