Is the ‘Arab Spring’ Likely in Southeast Asia?
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2019, №3(44), 28-43
Annotation: The article gives insights into the situation in the Middle East and South-East Asia assessing prospects for large-scale social unrest, referred to as the “Arab spring”. The factors of domestic politics, economy, ethnic structure and confession in the Middle East through the prism of their recurrence in the Southeast Asian states are under the research scrutiny. The authors conclude that the course of present domestic political trends in the Southeast Asian states, the ASEAN-led processes of economic regionalism, as well as relationship between the Association and its dialogue partners from the viewpoint of its prospective planning, does not suggest the recurrence of the Middle East scenario in Southeast Asia.
