Annotation: Myanmar is one of the most multi-ethnic states in the world. There are up to 135 ethnic groups and at least 108 different languages. Until today, the total number of ethnic minorities is known very approximately. Rohingya are Bengalis migrants from the southeastern regions of Bangladesh who, year after year, create their ethno-religious enclaves in a predominantly Buddhist country. Rohingya are not citizens of Myanmar. Moreover, the self-designation of “Rohingya” is considered illegal by the Myanmar authorities. The article analyzes the opinions of Russian and foreign analysts, as well as the position of various international organizations and government structures regarding the August events of 2017 in Myanmar.
