Isan as a natural, economic, cultural and political phenomenon

Annotation: Isan – the northeastern part of Thailand, the largest region of the country, with the area of 170 thousand square kilometers borders with Cambodia and Laos. It is divided into 20 provinces. Located on the Korat plateau, this region is characterized by the originality of natural and climatic conditions, language, culture and customs of the peoples inhabiting it and by the political preferences formed on this basis. The study of this region makes it possible to evaluate the combination of local cultural identity and national unity within a single country, a single Buddhist culture and a broad ethnic community.
