The importance of Oceania in the modern world and the Pacific interests of Russia

Annotation: In recent years, Russia has begun to pay more attention to its Pacific affairs. Cooperation is developing with China, both Koreas and ASEAN countries. New routes, including maritime routes for the supply of Russian coal and natural gas to these countries, are being developed. The Russian Federation is interested in maintaining regional security. However, trade and other ties of the Russian Federation with Australia and Oceania are developing not so actively. The author focuses on the fact that trade with Australia and Oceania can also bring the Russian Federation a certain profit. Australia and New Zealand are very wealthy states. The other countries of the region are not so rich, but they have numerous population, and could become a market for Russian products. The article also reviews the activities of the Mikloukho-Macliy Foundation, created in 2016 by N.N. Mikloukho-Maclai Junior.
