Annotation: he article is dedicated to one of the most popular contemporary Viet Nam social science journals, "Past and present" ("Xùa vā nay"), which in 2019 turned 25 years old. It was set up in 1994 by a group of Vietnamese historians as a response to a public request to update historical knowledge in the country, to eliminate the "white spots" of national history, to introduce a new non-dogmatic approach to covering many issues of the present and the past.
