Thailand: The Political Legacy of the 1932 Revolution and the Protest Movement

Annotation: The paper aims to trace the influence of the ideas of democracy, first put forward by the revolution of 1932, and the historical heritage of the "People's Party", which made it, on the development of the modern political protest movement in Thailand, where for many decades there has been a struggle between authoritarianism and the dictatorship of the military, on the one hand, and parliamentarism, on the other. It is emphasized that 2020 is characterized by the radicalization of the mass protest movement, mainly represented by students. The author came to conclusion that the idea of the monarchy reform publicly proclaimed for the first time calls into question the stability of the political system in the country.
