Annotation: The article is devoted to the activities of one of the most prominent administrators in the history of Australia during the colonial period – Lachlan Macquarie. He not only managed to establish the firm order in the territories entrusted to him and significantly expand the zone of British settlements in the southeast of the continent, but also laid the foundations for the introduction the system of self-government here.
