A Chinese Researcher on the Evolution of Asia-Pacific Security Challenges after the Cold W

Annotation: After the Cold War, expectations about economic cooperation as an effective mechanism to cope political contradictions became widespread in the Asia-Pacific expert and political community. As three decades have passed, evidently, this scenario has not materialized. The article focuses on the evolution of main economic trends in the Asia-Pacific region as a key macro-factor that influences on regional security. In addition, it reveals the transformation of main regional challenges, as well as how the project Indo-Pacific region may potentially shape them. The author argues that in the contemporary world, due to China’s rise to global economic, political and security prominence with implications for the Asia-Pacific region, a greater coordination of the regional multilateral projects and initiatives of cooperation with China, compared to what has been to date, is necessary.
