European Union and the 2021 Military Coup in Myanmar

Annotation: The paper analyses the reaction of the European Union to the 2021 military coup in Myanmar. The author traces the steps, made by the EU since February 2021 (including thematic statements, sanctions, discussing the situation in Myanmar with its partners and promoting its views). It is concluded that the course of the EU, in spite of being usually justified with axio-logical foundations, is mainly conditioned by its own interests and unwillingness to accept the increase of China’s influence in the region.
