Outcomes and Results of Local Elections in Cambodia.
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2022, №3(56), 113-124
Annotation: This article considers the results of local elections in Cambodia which took place on the 5th of June 2022. A key component of the electoral campaign of the ruing Cambodian People’s Party which significantly influenced its impressive result was the announcement regarding the forthcoming change in political elites and their rejuvenation. Hun Manet has been put forward as the prime ministerial candidate. The exact timing of this fundamental shift in political elites has so far not been confirmed. Among the opposition parties, the Candlelight Party, which took 20 percent of the votes, showed the best result. Some parties insisted on the idea of uniting efforts and creating some sort of common structure which would improve their chances of success for parliamentary elections. However, the Cambodian opposition does not have a strong experience of consolidated actions.
