Annotation: Scientific popularization in the USSR was an important governmental task. One of the main means of its implementation was the mass production of popular science literature. Research into the contents of the Soviet popular science periodicals makes it possible to discover a complex of diverse materials that transmitted the images of Oceania and the Pacific Islanders, and thereby brings us closer to understanding the mass ideas in the Soviet society about the South Pacific region and its inhabitants.
