ASEAN's Participation in UN Peacekeeping Operations and the Blue Helmet Mission in Cyprus
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2023, №2(59), 34-44
Annotation: The purpose of this article is to analyze the practice of ASEAN countries' participation in UN peacekeeping operations. Southeast Asian countries, both in their national capacity and collectively as an ASEAN organization, view participation in UN peacekeeping operations as an important part of their own international activities. Cooperation between the two international organizations in the field of peace and security has been institutionalized, including in the ASEAN-UN Plan of Action (2016-2020), which includes cooperation with UN peacekeeping forces.
Against the backdrop of some unsuccessful peacekeeping operations, the years of UN efforts to stop and contain the bitter Greek-Turkish conflict in Cyprus have been a success. Representatives of two ASEAN countries, Cambodia and Indonesia, also contributed to the success of the Blue Helmets in Cyprus.
