ASEAN Summit: Myanmar Crisis Became the Main Topic of the Meeting on the Indonesian Island of Flores
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2023, №2(59), 138-149
Annotation: The article examines Indonesia's attempt to resolve the crisis in Myanmar as the ASEAN chairman. For two years, the association has been trying to cope with the crisis caused by the seizure of power by the military in February 2021, which led to the outbreak of a nationwide civil war between the military junta and disparate groups – national and ethnic, opposed to military rule. Despite all the efforts of ASEAN, the political crisis in the country shows no signs of resolution, but on the contrary, it is even getting worse. President Joko Widodo was forced to admit this in his closing speech. The military leadership in Naypyidaw also understands the infinite tragedy of the current situation and is taking some steps that indicate that Myanmar does not want to isolate itself from ASEAN.
