Participation of ASEAN Partners in Ensuring Political and Economic Security in Eurasia: an English School Perspective
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2023, №3(59), 40-52
Annotation: The article is devoted to the study of the interaction of ASEAN with regional partners - the EAEU, China and India – in ensuring political and economic security in Eurasia through the prism of the concept of the international society of the English school of international relations. The author analyzes the density of bilateral ties in countering the corona crisis, sanctions and trade wars. The study revealed that cooperation between the leading members of the Eurasian space in the fight against the three challenges is often chaotic and asymmetric. In selected cases, such as ASEAN-EAEU or EAEU-India, bilateral interaction was characterized by institutional and trade-economic inertia during the corona crisis and earlier period. At the same time, from 2014 to 2021 ASEAN partners, primarily China and the EAEU, have repeatedly resorted to “coercive diplomacy” and used discriminatory measures against one another, which led to an imbalance of power and interests.
Thus, it seems incorrect to assert the existence of an international society in Eurasia in relation to ensuring political and economic security using the example of ASEAN and its partners.
