Kamayan: The Culture of Food and Feast in the Philippines

Annotation: The article considers a significant aspect of the Philippine national culture – the culture of food, feasting in the style of Kamayan and fiesta. The historical roots of this tradition, its ritualism and symbolism are briefly touched upon. A separate section of the work is devoted to the importance of food in Filipino culture, the values associated with it, and also to how the food culture in the Philippines forms the national identity of the Pinoy. The text provides a fairly extensive layer of national Filipino dishes with their brief description, cooking methods, explanations on the etymology of the names and illustrations of the dishes themselves for further visual clarity.
