Annotation: The article is about the Maori prophet Te Kooti and the Ringatu church that he founded. Te Kooti was born and raised in the time when New Zealand suffered from internecine wars between the Maori tribes and when the Maori waged national liberation war against the British colonizers. Hard conditions formed the prophet’s character and influenced his lore. During the war Ringatu was a warlike church that joined and supported the Maori in their fight. When the war was over, Ringatu continued to join and support the Maori people in their peaceful life.
