ASEAN Power Grid: Global, Regional and Intra-Country Aspects
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2024, №1(62), 95-111
Annotation: The article analyzes ASEAN’s (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) policy toward the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and its digital support from the perspective of global energy trends and increased significance of renewables in the priorities of ASEAN and its member states. On systemizing global energy processes behind rising interest to renewables, the authors explore this direction as an individual track in ASEAN integration agenda. Having revealed origins and driving forces of the APG construction, the paper traces its evolution, assesses the present state of the project and specifies possibilities and limitations of its digital support. From the authors’ perspective, the APG construction may be delayed due to ASEAN underdeveloped mechanisms related to both trans-border power trade and multilateral cooperation as a whole. The academic novelty and practical significance of the article stem from its research focus, specifically, an emphasis on ASEAN’s flagship multilateral infrastructure project amidst fundamental renewables-related global energy trends. An extra factor of relevance is an industry-focused component of the research, the significance of which is steadily rising in the contemporary Area Studies.
