Annotation: The article deals with the changes of the political system in Indonesia after the fall of the military-authoritarian “The New Order Regime” in 1998. Four parcels of amendments to the Constitution in 1999-2002 and several laws were aimed at democratization of forming process and functioning of legislative and executive organs. Besides these changes and real achievements in the economic development and strengthening Indonesia’s international role, the country still has to overcome the heritage of three decades of the dictatorship regime. Among the most acute problems are inequality and disparity of development both social groups and regions. Social inequality as well as the monopoly of state ideology promotes development of radical Islam.
