The Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline Construction: Interim Results
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2024, №2(63), 55-72
Annotation: The article assesses the obtained results of the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP) construction as one of the flagship initiatives undertaken by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member state. On systematizing fundamental global trends that shape the development of oil, gas and coal markets, the paper reveals the state of energy balances of ASEAN countries and assesses their contribution to the implementation of selected provisions of Paris Agreement on climate. Then the paper turns to closely tracing salient features of the TAGP construction as ASEAN multilateral project. From the authors’ perspective, although the project has an apparent positive multiplier effect for ASEAN integration and will be finalized, its implementation may be delayed. A detailed account of prospects of ASEAN pivotal project that shapes the commercial and investment attractiveness of Southeast Asia and the competitiveness of ASEAN as an international actor ahead of the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2025 stands for the practical significance of the study. The novelty and the academic significance of the article come from its inter-disciplinary focus, as its authors link the TAGP-related global, regional and intra-country processes with elements of industry analytics.
