President F. Marcos Jr.’s First Year: Foreign and Domestic Policies

Annotation: The paper provides an overview of the foreign and some aspects of the domestic policy of the current President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. based on the results of the first year of government. Some events and their results mentioned in the work refer to the current year 2024. The author touches upon such aspects of Philippine foreign policy as a U-turn towards the United States, attempts to maintain balance between grand powers and attract new partners, and the resumption of relations with the EU. As for domestic politics, the author focused on the crisis of democracy, rights and freedoms in the Philippines, especially in the journalistic environment, as well as being a result of the previous President Duterte’s policies during his “war on drugs” in the country. In addition, the situation of instability in the political establishment of the Philippines at current stage is highlighted against the backdrop of strong disagreements between members of two political clans and originally coalition represented by the Duterte and Marcos families.
