Urbanization in Australia: Problems and Perspectives

Annotation: The process of urbanization in Australia has the special features in comparison with the other countries. Australia is on the list of the most urbanized countries of the world. More than 80% of Australian population is urban. However, Australia is one of the biggest countries of the world in area. Therefore, in spite of the high level of urbanization, density of the population in Australia is one of the lowest in the world. Lately, at the international level got the dissemination the idea of sustainable urbanization. The government of Australia thinks that the adaptation of the principles of sustainable development improves the economical, social and ecological indicators of urban development, as well consolidates the mechanisms of urban management. Since the towns are at the front line of innovations development, reasonable urban policy contributes to the transition to the more sustainable economics.
