Dances in Filipino Culture. Their Significance and the Way to Preserve Them.

Annotation: The work examines the 2 suites of traditional Philippine dances – Muslim and Tribal ones. The author dwells on the features of the Muslim dance suite, the difficulties of its classification, problems with identity and perception of the Moro people – its bearers – that are now observed. The two aforementioned suites are also presented with several dances each and illustrated with vivid photographs. The article also examines the cultural significance of traditional Filipino dances, their role in the formation of the national and regional identity of the country's population, and touches upon the problem of preserving and transmitting dancing traditions to new generations of Filipinos in the modern world, both in the Philippines and in Filipino diasporas in other countries, for instance the USA.
