Mercedes for the Sultan: How Gift from Hitler Influenced the History of Malaya

Annotation: The article is devoted to the historical period of the formation of Malaysian statehood in the first half of the 20th century, with an emphasis on the years before and at the end of the Second World War. It discovers little-known facts of contacts between the ruler of one of the most influential sultanates of Malaya - Johor - with European leaders, including Adolf Hitler. It tells about events that, under certain circumstances, could lead to a completely different reality on the Malacca Peninsula. At the same time, the article doesn’t provide any basis for assessing in any way the descendants of the historical figures in concern, who currently occupy the highest positions of power in Malaysia.
