The Scots in Colonial Burma
Annotation: Burma was sometimes called the "Scottish colony" because of the active participation of the Scots in colonization and governance of the country. Scottish soldiers, civil servants and entrepreneurs played an important role in the transformation of British Burma from a minor outpost of the British Raj into the economic center it would become at the beginning of the twentieth century. Many of the beautiful old buildings that still exist in Yangon were built for Scottish companies that successfully conducted business in various areas of the colonial economy.
