Shock and Chocolate: Russian Export of Confectionery to Vietnam in 2018-2022.

Annotation: Vietnam is a promising export market for products of the Russian agro-industrial complex, including confectionery. Although chocolate consumption in Vietnam is relatively low, it is projected to grow in response to economic development and increasing income levels. Thus, based on international trade data, we analyse the role of Russia as a sweets supplier to Vietnam and explore changes in the export commodity structure from 2018 to 2022. We pay special attention to the resilience of Russian-Vietnamese foreign trade relations during this period in light of two significant shocks: the COVID-19 pandemic and the sanctions imposed due to the Russian special military operation in Ukraine (SVO).
