Development of “Smart Cities” as a Promising Direction for Digitalization of the Thai Economy

Annotation: Digitalization processes have covered different aspects of socio-economic activity in different countries of the world. One of the perspective directions of digitalization is the formation of "smart cities", which are based on using the advantages of digital technologies for the benefit of the population. The main reasons for the formation of "smart cities" in different countries of the world include the active introduction of digital technologies and the dynamic growth of urbanization. The proposed article analyzes the essence of the concept of a "smart city", the basics of public policy and the specifics of its implementation in Thailand. The task is to create 105 "smart cities" by 2027 in one of the key areas. Despite the ongoing technological, financial and personnel problems, there are considerable prospects for achieving the goal set by the Government of the country.
