Indonesian National Armed Forces: International Cooperation as Reflected in the Qualification Badges

Annotation: The Indonesian National Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, TNI) actively cooperate with the armed forces of other countries. TNI purchases weapons, conducts joint exercises, and sends soldiers and officers for training abroad, primarily in the United States and Europe. There is no investigation of the reflection of this cooperation through qualification badges and their wearing by the Indonesian military. The article collects information about foreign qualification badges awarded to senior officers of Indonesia. The research is based on open sources, including government agreements, media and online encyclopedia. Official photographs of Indonesian generals show qualification badges of the armies of the USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Germany. Few Indonesian high officers have the military badges of Australia and Brunei. The qualification badges of foreign countries are worn along with the Indonesian ones. It reflects the desire of the Indonesian high officers to consolidate the army hierarchy and emphasize their own achievements, expressed by qualification badges.
