Indonesia's Industrial Policy Strategies

Annotation: Industrial policy, understood as targeted government intervention in a country's economic life to achieve the structural transformation of its national industry through various intervention instruments, has in recent years become a relevant strategy for both developed and developing countries. This trend has been driven by the geopolitical upheavals of recent years: sanctions wars, trade and economic confrontations between major powers, and the pandemic. However, despite the generalized trend of growing interest in industrial policy from governments and societies, it is important to understand that the strategies and mechanisms for their implementation will differ for developed and developing countries. While developed countries have access to the instrument of domestic investment and possess a clear understanding of which existing technologies require support, developing countries continue to need to attract not only foreign investment but also technology. Furthermore, the implementation of strategic plans by developed countries can, conversely, become a negative factor for them. This article examines the implementation of industrial policy strategies by Indonesia within the context of current geopolitical realities.
