Malaysia's ASEAN Presidency: Expectations and Reality. Yugo-Vostochnaya Aziya

Annotation: The article analyzes the results of Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sought to strengthen the Association's international image and enhance his country's prestige. His leadership has fostered trust in ASEAN and demonstrated the effectiveness of collective diplomacy. However, doubts are being raised about ASEAN's ability to achieve meaningful results in trade and conflict resolution. ASEAN summits often fail to produce collective decisions, with important agreements concluded bilaterally. The conflict in Myanmar and territorial disputes in the South China Sea remain serious challenges for the organization.
